The Benefits of a Polycarbonate Skylight
The polycarbonate skylight is a great way to add value and style to your
home, not to mention the energy savings that a properly installed skylight can afford. A polycarbonate skylight is a good choice for nearly any
application, as polycarbonate material has nearly 200 times the impact resistance of standard glass. This is great for those areas where a
falling branch or a foul ball could potentially damage your skylight. Most polycarbonate skylights come covered in a protective ultraviolet film,
reducing the amount of U.V. radiation that passes through the light by almost 98%. This, in turn, creates a brightly lit, yet low risk, area in
your home.
If you would rather have a bit of a tint to your polycarbonate skylight, there are a couple of options to choose from. Many
manufacturers offer, in addition to clear lenses which allow about 90% of light to pass, opal and bronze options, as well as standard tints. The
opal film will allow about half of the light to pass, but it also creates an even distribution of the available light. The means, the light that
passes through an opal polycarbonate skylight will appear more uniform. This is great for that room that always seems to be draped in shadows.
The bronze option allows about 40% of the light to pass, making it one of the darker tints. Other, more moderate, shades are available which
mediate between the clear lenses and the bronze lens.
Whatever options you choose, a skylight is an excellent addition to any home or office. You can find nearly any style to suit
your preexisting motifs, and with the different shadings available, you can be assured that you’ll find the skylight that creates the best
ambiance for your space. It has also been shown that natural light can improve a person’s mood. Enjoy your skylight for all it has to offer.
